DIY Twisted Scrap Fabric Decor Balls

Y'all have no idea how much the thrill of snow excites me. We might be getting some snow soon here in this fine city of Atlanta and I cannot wait to see my kid's faces as they play. In our neighborhood, there will be tons of hot chocolate and roasting of hotdogs. Last time, a tree fell at the beginning of our subdivision

Did you know that the beginning of winter is the perfect time for collecting pinecones? Many of them have opened up and they seem to be in abundance in our neighborhood this year which is great because I can definitely find things to do with pinecones. Our first project of the new year involves both pinecones and Waverly Inspirations. We hope that you love these Waverly DIY Twisted Scrap Fabric Decor Balls as much as we do.

Materials

  • Waverly Fabric in 2 different patterns
  • 4″ round Styrofoam balls
  • hot glue
  • scissors
  • Waverly Super Premium High-Performance Semi-Gloss Acrylic Paint in Lacquer, Curry, Ocean and Evergreen
  • Paint Brush
  • Pine Cones

Directions

PINE CONES:

  1. Use paint to paint pine cones. I painted the top tips of the pine cones and then flipped over the pine cone and painted the bottom of the tips as well as the bottom of the pine cone. Let dry completely.

FABRIC BALLS/SPHERES:

  1. Cut 10 strips of one pattern of fabric 1.25″ wide x 52″ long or the length of your fabric. I loosely measured this and some of my strips weren't too even but it was okay.
  2. Take one strip and cut one end on an angle. Begin to roll the fabric on the angle to create a long, rolled up piece. Secure every now and again with hot glue if desired. Begin to roll the long piece into a spiral. Continue to roll the fabric and then the spiral and tack it every so often with hot glue. Once your spiral is complete, set it on top of the ball. Gently press the spiral so it forms to the ball. Remove the spiral and add hot glue to the bottom and press it onto the ball.
  3. Continue with your second and subsequent strips. Cut the fabric on an angle and begin to roll the strip. Attach the strip to the end of the piece on the ball with hot glue. Continue to roll the strip and attach it to the ball with hot glue. Repeat until the entire ball is almost covered.
  4. For the last and final strip, repeat step one. Making the spiral “off” the ball and attaching it on later, just as you attached the first spiral.
  5. Place your pine cones and fabric balls into a decorative dish. Photograph and send to friends so that they will be green with envy.
