Asian BBQ Brisket Tacos with a Flavorful Twist

Since I'm a taco enthusiast (my t-shirt collection can attest to that!), and brisket is another true love, it was only natural to combine these two passions into a delicious recipe. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with these Asian BBQ Brisket Tacos – they're sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

  • 5-6# Brisket
  • 1 cup low salt soy sauce
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup hoisin
  • 1 cup Jack Daniels BBQ sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ginger
  • 3 kaffir lime leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 mandarin orange
  • 1 small sweet onion

Taco Tuesday Takeover: Asian BBQ Brisket Tacos – A Delicious Twist on a Classic

Directions

  1. First, gather the marinade ingredients: rice wine vinegar, ginger, kaffir lime leaves, a whole mandarin orange (peel included!), garlic, and onion. Add them all to a food processor or blender and blitz until smooth. Pour the resulting marinade into a bowl and stir in the remaining ingredients (except for the brisket, of course!).
  2. Next, we'll prep the brisket. Using a sharp knife, lightly score the surface of the meat. This helps the marinade penetrate deeper for maximum flavor. Place the brisket in a baking dish and pour the marinade over it, reserving about 1 1/2 cups for later. Cover the dish tightly and refrigerate for 24 hours to let the flavors meld beautifully.
  3. Prepare your grill for an indirect smoke.  You want a temperature of 225.  Remember, the dome of the grill will be a different temperature than the grill surface.
  4. Throw on the brisket and allow it to cook for around 5 hours.  You want to hit an internal temperature of 170 degrees.
  5. Once you hit your temperature, pull the brisket off and wrap it in foil. Brush some of the BBQ sauce on it before you close it up.  Put it back on the grill and continue to cook for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  You want to hit 195-200 degrees internal temperature.
  6. Once the brisket reaches the desired internal temperature, remove it from the foil. Brush it generously with the remaining BBQ sauce, coating it evenly. Now, it's time to take the flavor up a notch! Place the brisket back on the grill for an additional 20-30 minutes. This step allows the BBQ sauce to caramelize, achieving that perfect charred and sticky consistency we all love.
  7. Remove from the heat and cover the brisket with foil.  Allow it to rest for 30 minutes. Then slice, eat, and enjoy.
  8. Looking for a creative way to use leftover brisket? These tacos are the perfect solution! We enjoyed our initial brisket feast with classic baked potatoes. However, on the second night, we decided to transform the leftovers into something entirely new: delicious tacos!
