On the Red Carpet with the Cast of Disney’s PLANES

Note to readers: I was hosted by Disney Studios to help review and promote the movie. I was not otherwise compensated and my opinions remain my own.

When you think of red carpet premieres for films, images of movie stars, paparazzi, and glitz and glamour probably come to mind, but if it’s a Disney Studios premiere for a movie targeted toward children, you better add a lot of fun to the mix, too, as I found in the premiere of Disney's PLANES.

Soaking in the Red Carpet Experience at the Disney's PLANES Premiere

Walking the red carpet for the first time in my life, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found was a red carpet that also doubled as an airport runway, tying into the racing theme for Disney's PLANES.

On that red carpet, we walked alongside the stars of the film, from Teri Hatcher to the film’s Executive Producer, John Lasseter.  We got there just as Teri Hatcher was arriving, and I can tell you, it was wild to see the massive crowd of cameras clamoring to get the perfect shot of her.  It was also pretty impressive to see her turn around and address us, thanking us for attending and allowing us to ask about her guest, who turned out to be her stunning daughter. We were encouraged to keep moving, which we did, after snapping a few keepsake photos of ourselves.

A Pre-Party as Amazing as the Disney's PLANES Red Carpet

Before the event, we were told that with it being a kids’ movie, there would be a pre-party packed with children’s activities for those lucky enough to be included in the premiere festivities. Disney Studios succeeded in creating a party everyone could enjoy, lining the red carpet with tents that featured foods like cotton candy, churros, sliders and more. But even better than the food was the carnival-like games that children (and adults)
could enjoy.
From a claw machine that I swear was fixed (not in a bad way—it was fixed so that every player walked away a winner), to a fishing game where you could hook a boat that could be turned in for a prize (more PLANES memorabilia), it would have been nearly impossible to leave without some PLANES memorabilia. Target donated oodles of prizes, all products with the PLANES theme that you can also pick up at your local store.

I bumped into stars of all ages, from Alyssa Milano (whose mom, husband and kiddo were with her) to Harold Perrineau Jr of LOST and his beautiful daughter.  Others at the event include: Brad Garrett, Julie Bowen of Modern Family, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Hillary Duff, Catherine Bell, Anthony Edwards, Lorenzo Lamas.

Getting all the Feels with Other Families at the Disney's PLANES Red Carpet Premiere

Once in the theater, waiting for the movie to start, I bumped into the kids from the Disney Show Jessie, one of my own daughter’s favorites. The actors were all very gracious, with the stars Teri Hatcher and Dane Cook both agreeing to pose for pictures with me. Watching the movie in El Capitan Theater, knowing the cast was in the room with us, able to laugh while we laughed, was an amazing experience. It’s easy to forget that the stars are people, too, with families and feelings, and being able to share this experience with them was nothing short of amazing.

It’s a thrill I won’t soon forget.

Reader note: I'll be posting a review of the actual movie this Friday, August 9th, the same day that it opens in theaters.
