This headband is about the cutest thing ever. What is even better is that it is made with old tshirts and you can use any old tshirts that you want. If your kids outgrow something, you can upcycle for another purpose and that is exactly what we did here. Or head to your local thrift store to pick out tees in some of your favorite colors. Upcycled T-Shirt Strip Headband Tutorial

Supplies

  • 3 pieces of white t-shirt cut to approximate 2” wide & 24” long
  • 3 pieces of hot pink t-shirt cut to approximately 2” wide & 24” long
  • Additional t-shirt scraps in smaller pieces for creating flowers
  • Needle
  • thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Tie or sew the six strips of fabric together at one end. Separate the strips into 3 strands of pink and white.
  2. Begin braiding the strands.
  3. Continue braiding until you reach the end of the strands.
  4. Sew the ends together and to finish braid. Turn wrong side out and sew both ends together trimming off access fabric.
  5. Begin twisting & rolling a strip of fabric for the first flower. Start a coil by and tacking it together with your needle and thread. Continue to roll and twist into the coil, tacking it together until you’ve created a flower the size you desire.
  6. Repeat with additional sizes & colors of flowers.
  7. Finally, attach the flowers to the braided band with your needle and thread, making sure to secure well.

    This headband is so cute! I make fabric flower accessories and headbands, so I must do this!!! I just hope I don’t cut up my regular tees, hope I can find some oldies!!! darling!
