The onUp Experience in The Battery of SunTrust Park Atlanta

The walk from parking lot 31 to SunTrust Park took around 7-8 minutes. You cross I-75 on foot via a bridge, and from there, you are greeted by a bronze statue of Phil Niekro throwing his signature knuckle ball. Walking around the side of the park, one passes another bronze. This one is of Bobby Cox. Keep walking a little further ahead and you reach Battery Atlanta.

The Battery of Suntrust Park

The Battery area of the park houses all sorts of restaurants, an intricate fountain, a separate concert venue, the onUp Experience, and so very much more.

The onUp Experience

“The onUp Experience is an entertainment center that brings financial tools to baseball fans visiting SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta. As a financial well-being center, visitors at the onUp Experience learn about financial confidence. It's named after the onUp Movement, which is about people taking steps toward financial confidence so they can enjoy the moments that matter.”

The onUp Experience is a unique, interactive entertainment center that is designed to engage all ages. Built by SunTrust, the goal of the experience is to connect finance, fun and baseball in an interactive and entertaining way.

Upon entry to the onUp Experience, you are greeted by a virtual Tom Glavine, and your journey begins by stepping up to the Draft. Your picture is taken, and the next thing you know you receive a personalized baseball card that acts as your ticket to the various onUp experiences.

There is a long bank of touch screens that run along the right hand wall. The words “Confidence Starts Here” glow from above, and it is here that you can learn a little bit about finance. As you work your way down the wall, you learn facts about financial stress, as well as ways to ease the tension. At the end of the wall you can test your knowledge in a financial trivia game. The goal here is teach you how to both recognize and deal with financial stressors in your life, pointing you down a path of financial confidence.

What can you do at SunTrust Park?

There is a Braves Superfan Quiz, where you answer Braves trivia questions and are ranked against other players.

Or you could choose to take a swing at a fastball in the batting skills game. This area was quite popular during my visit. You get five pitches, and the goal is to knock on out of SunTrust Park.

The Jump onUp area lets you don a jersey and cap for pictures, and the Confidence wall teaches both young and old a little about finance via interactive screens.

Additionally, 680 The Fan will be broadcasting from the onUp Experience space, and when the broadcast booth isn't in use, you the fan can take a spot behind the mike.

Truly an experience

I was there on opening day, and that meant there was plenty of celebration happening all around. We enjoyed everything from the onUp Experience ribbon cutting ceremony to the INCREDIBLE onUp skaters.

The Braves and SunTrust didn't just build a stadium. They built an experience. Seriously. You could easily spend the day “tailgating” in the various offerings in the Battery Atlanta area of the park. And best of all, you don't need a ticket to access the Battery area. Join the fun in the Suntrust OnUp experience.
