National Adopt a Cat Month

National Adopt a Cat Month

Did you know that millions of cats are in shelters across the country waiting for a loving parent or family to bring them home? See those pictures below. That is Anna and Kristoff (yes, we love Frozen) and they are shelter cats. Someone just abandoned them as kittens and while we weren’t even planning to get a cat, much less two cats, there was just something about this brother and sister pair that tugged at our heartstrings. One look at their beautiful faces from their shelter picture and I knew that they would be coming home with us. We hope that this National Adopt a Cat Month post inspires you.

National Adopt a Cat Month

National Adopt a Cat Month

Since June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, I thought that I would take the opportunity to share with you the importance of looking for shelter animals when considering a pet for your home. Many cats in shelters simply want their forever home, and Fresh Step® Litter wants to help families everywhere. Did you know that one of the biggest reasons cats are returned to shelters is litter box rejection?

Why June is particularly significant for cat adoption

  • Kitten Season: June coincides with the peak of kitten season, meaning shelters are overflowing with adorable fluffballs waiting for their forever homes. By adopting during this time, you're not only giving a kitty a loving home but also helping alleviate the strain on shelters.
  • Increased Awareness: During June, many animal shelters and rescue organizations hold special events and promotions to encourage cat adoption. This means you'll likely find adoption fees reduced or waived, and there are often opportunities to meet adoptable cats through local events.
  • The Joys of Cat Ownership: Cats make wonderful companions, offering purrs, cuddles, and endless entertainment. They can reduce stress, provide emotional support, and even improve your cardiovascular health.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

If you're interested in adopting a cat in June, here are some things you can do

  • Contact your local animal shelter or rescue organization: They can help you find the perfect feline friend based on your preferences and lifestyle.
  • Participate in adoption events: Look for adoption fairs or open houses happening in your area. This is a great way to meet many adoptable cats at once.
  • Spread the word: Let your friends and family know you're considering adopting a cat. You never know who might be looking for a new furry friend!
