Health & Wellness Tips for the New Year

I am someone who wants healthy food and snack options to incorporate into my daily eating habits for the new year. I have already done a lot of that this year by joining Weight Watchers and really learning how to use SmartPoints to eat a balanced diet each day. This year, I plan to do a lot more meal planning to make certain that I always have healthy eating options available to me every single day.

Want to get on track for the new year? Here are some Health and Wellness Tips for the New Year that I know I plan to follow. There are some great tips whether you are just getting started or a seasoned pro.

1. Start today.

I was always one of those tomorrow people. You know the kind, right? Tomorrow I will exercise. Tomorrow I will eat better. Tomorrow I will care about my health.

No more. Be a today person. It’s time to live fully! Whatever you are planning to do in the new year for your health, start this very minute and don't put it off.

2. Drink lots of water.

Often times people are dehydrated and have no idea. Water is an important part of your everyday routine. As someone with Endometriosis, I carry water with me everywhere I go in a reusable water bottle. I even travel with my water bottle so I can always hydrate. Hydration is especially important to me.

3. Get annual health checkups.

This seems to be a no-brainer but I am surprised at the amount of people who actually don't go to see their doctor and dentist annually. Making certain that your teeth and body are in order means that you can stick to your health goals.

4. Get moving. Stretch and exercise daily.

No matter what, try to at least move or exercise for 10 minutes a day. I do squats in my bathroom while I am putting makeup on or fixing my hair. I stretch every morning when I wake up and this is a great start to my day. Every move counts!

5. Learn proper portion sizes.

This was key for me. I had no idea what a proper portion size was until I started researching it. Now I know exactly how much to eat and I can track my portions much better. In fact, I love that Weight Watchers offers pre-packaged snacks which makes portion control easy.

6. Reduce screentime.

Reducing my screentime is something that I aspire to do every single day. I try to put my phone down, get off of the computer and just read an actual book every single night before going to bed. Reduced screentime means less strain on my eyes which is always a good thing.

7. Practice proper posture.

Sit up straight. You would be surprised at how effective proper posture can be on your body. You can experience much less fatigue and your back with thank you.

Honestly this seems like a lot of work but you would be surprised at how much time you can actually save by planning what you are going to eat every day. I plan absolutely everything that I will be eating for the next day the night before.

For example, this quick but delicious lunch was made with Arnold Sandwich Thins (endorsed by Weight Watchers), turkey, apples and lettuce.

Health & Wellness Tips for the New YearI loved all of the Weight Watchers items purchased. The Arnold Sandwich Thins (endorsed by Weight Watchers) make the perfect sandwich without a lot of extra bread. I always feel better about eating a sandwich on Arnold Sandwich Thins which are endorsed by Weight Watchers.

Weight Watchers Cheese is a great snack on the go or to eat at home.  I always carry the cheese around with me as a snack so that I can have it on the go or anytime. I love the taste and the consistency of the cheese. In fact, since this cheese is only 1 SmartPoint value per stick, this makes it my new favorite snack.

The Weight Watchers Frozen Novelties: English Toffee Crunch Ice Cream Bars are absolutely amazing and the perfect treat for those nights when I am craving something sweet. In fact, my husband likes them just as much as I do. Not only do they have less than 100 calories per serving, the Weight Watchers frozen novelties have a lower points value per serving than other “diet” novelties.
