Emily’s Oz & Tech for Disabilities
Everyone has a favorite movie – that includes the 8 million people in America with visual disabilities. What does a person who is blind see when they watch their favorite movie?
When my grandmother lived with us many years ago, she had a hard time seeing the television and hearing it. We had to turn it up loud and she pretty much needed us to help her find a show to watch on television. It was pretty tough for her. I think that she would love to advances in technology that would help her out.
ACCESSIBILITY FOR DISABILITIES
XFINITY on the X1 Entertainment Operating System has accessibility features built right in to bring customers innovations like the industry’s first talking guide, video description, accessible mobile apps and the new voice remote. Everyone should be able to find and enjoy their favorite movies independently – TV is universal, so access should be as well.

What a great commercial. I’ve never really thought about what someone blind would picture as they are listening to movies before. This really opened my eyes to those with disabilities.

I think it is great that you can have a voice remote. I have so much trouble myself, finding the right button on the dang remote, in the dark, to go where I want it to go! I would use it!

I LOVE anything that give people more accessibility 🙂 Being legally blind myself, and having friends who are totally blind, I love that they will have this kind of access! They can watch movies alone without having someone there to describe the scene 🙂 So cool!

As a teacher of those with disabilities, this makes my heart happy happy happy! I love that we are able to communicate and connect with those that suffer form various disabilities!

This is super nice and meaningful because I live with my sweet Nana who is 79. Things like this are very appreciated.
I’ve often wondered about how those who were blind from birth experience or “see” things. It’s great that so much care and consideration has been put into this.

I think it is great, it is an awesome start. I have worked with many people with various disabilities. One thing that many of us without disabilities taes for granted is the ease of use of everyday items. The ease of being able to get where we want to go when and how we want. The voice remote is wonderful for not only those with visual disabilities, but for those with maneuverability issues as well. Or for some with certain learning disabilities it can help too. The larger buttons have obvious benefits to many too.
This would be great for my parents as they need larger items when looking at the screen.
