DIY Peppermint Foot Soak

DIY Peppermint Foot Soak

Aromatherapy bath salts are very inexpensive to make at home, and make wonderful gifts.  This DIY Peppermint Foot Soak couldn't be easier!

Epsom salt is not actually salt, but a naturally occurring pure mineral compound and has countless beneficial properties. The Epsom salts are known to relieve pain – it's great for athlete's foot, removing splinters, soothing sprains and bruises, and easing the discomfort of gout.  Of course, a good food soak will soften your skin and soothe achy feet, too.

Peppermint offers several aromatherapy benefits and leaves you feeling refreshed and revitalized.  In combination with the Epsom salts, the peppermint also helps relieve pain and relaxes the nerves.

Be sure to use pure essential oils. They are a little more expensive, but it is worth it.  Don't worry – one bottle will last a long time!

Materials and Ingredients Needed:

2 cups Epsom salt

10 drops peppermint essential oil

green food coloring

1-2 baby wipes

funnel

1 pint canning jar or other container

Directions:

Pour the Epsom salt into a mixing bowl, and break up any lumps.  Add the food coloring onto the baby wipe, then use a spoon to mix the colored wipe around. The more drops you use, the more saturated the color will be. Once the salts are tinted the color you like, toss the baby wipe.

Now for the scent – add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil to the salts and mix. Use the funnel to pour the salts into the jar, then seal tightly.

You can add a simple ribbon around the jar for a pretty little homemade gift.

To Use:

Add 1/2 cup of the Epson salts to a basin of warm water and soak your feet for 20 minutes.

Please Note: If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, check with your doctor before using Epsom salts and/or essential oils.
