4 Tips for Powering Through Epic Parenting Fails

This 4 Tips for Powering Through Epic Parenting Fails post is a sponsored post.

Epic parenting fails. As parents, haven't we all been there at one point? I mean the point where we just have this epic parenting fail. I have had several epic parenting fails. I have done everything from forget the tooth fairy, to forget that I had removed a spare tire from my trunk for more room and then got a flat. I embrace my parenting fails for the most part because they are an opportunity to learn. Along the way, I think that I have learned a few things to prevent a lot of other parenting fails. Here are my 4 tips for powering through an epic parenting fail.

Always have a plan.

If there is one thing that I have learned about being a parent it is that with three children, I always need a plan. There is no fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants type travel or activities. We have to get a plan in place to go anywhere. My husband and I plan together, then go through the plans a few days before our trip.

We took a spontaneous road trip a few years ago, or at least we tried to. We barely made it out of our state before we started realizing all of the things that we were missing and needed to buy while on the road. The cost ended up being so much that we ended up going home and heading to a local theme park instead. We took the time to plan out the experience, so we saved money and had everything that we needed to have a great day.

4 Tips for Powering Through Epic Parenting FailsHope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

This has always been my parenting philosophy. I am an eternal optimist. Ask pretty much anyone who knows me. I always see the world and think that the possibilities are endless. I have always been like that. However, when it comes to planning, I prepare for the worst.

We travel a lot and I like to think that I have the most complete first aid kit ever. I made two first aid kits and there is one for each of our cars. I prepare for the worst. This is just one instance.

Understand what you could do differently next time.

The most important part of learning is comprehension. I reiterate this with my children every day when I do homework with them and anytime I do something wrong, I want to know why. This is especially true when it comes to parenting fails because there is no chance I want to repeat one. I have three children. Any mistake that I make with the first one might be repeated with the next kid if I don't pay attention now and learn what I could do differently next time.

4 Tips for Powering Through Epic Parenting FailsMake certain that you are in Good Hands.

There is no tougher parenting fail than dealing with a flat tire, a tired husband, three ornery children and two little dogs. This was a tough crowd, our tire was flat and we had no spare. Nothing. We took out the spare and forgot to put it back in the car. We were stuck. We needed Allstate’s Good Hands Rescue® service.

The  service is on-demand without anAllstate policy required plus NO membership fees. You pay for these services only when you need them. Get immediate online and mobile access with 24/7 pay-per-use roadside assistance for issues like a flat tire, dead battery or keys locked in the car.

I feel good about using the Allstate Good Hands Rescue® service because I know that no matter what kind of fail I have on the road, I am covered. I am in good hands.   These are the kind of hands I want my children to be in as well. Making certain that everyone is in good hands also means that I have peace mind.

  7. I know that I made some mistakes as a parent when I was younger. I learned to power through them and do the best that I could. I wasn’t perfect by any means, but I think I did alright.

  8. That’s great that the roadside is free to Allstate customers. Purchasing emergency roadside coverage can be pricey so this could save some money for some folks.

  19. Oh, I’ve had plenty of epic fails. My son HATED Universal….who hates Universal?? I made up for it by letting him skip the second day even though I had paid for the ticket. It was worth the loss.

No one is perfect and each to their own on parenting, it goes as it comes

I am the eldest child and I guess I was the “experimental rat” of my parents. When their parenting style did not work for me, they eased up a lot and gave my sister more freedom. Goodness, I don’t even know how I survived. LOL. I raised my kids with enough freedom to do what they want, with a compromise that they WON’T do what I don’t want them to do. Parenting is tough, but with every bump in the road, we take it as a lesson learned. We get up and start on the journey anew. And most importantly, we always have to have a Plan B.

  23. We can’t be so hard on ourselves. We are still in BETA mode ourselves most of the time. I think kids understand this better than we do sometimes. This was a great article thank you!

  24. I think it is so important to learn from your mistakes and move on. I am not a perfect parent, but my kids know I do my best every day.

  25. I have that same motto, and parenting fails are definitely a learning experience. We’re not fail proof, but I certainly wish!

  26. Parenting is definitely a learning experience, I have learned. It’s tough out there! Good tips. We just keep trying to do our best. Preparedness is for sure a good thing.

  27. It’s so easy to have parent fails, but its all a learning experience. These are great tips because I know i could use some!

  28. Things happen when you least expect them too. I also like to prepare for the worst.

  29. Ann Bacciaglia

I always try to have a plan B. I have been stuck on the side of the road before with a flat and a flat spare tire. Lucky I keep a bag of snacks in the car and a few games we were able to play while we were waiting for help.

  30. Victoria Heckstall

Thanks for this information. They motivate us to go places that we would never otherwise go. They are needed both to change organizations and to produce results.

  31. I was stuck on the side of the road because a truck in front of me lost some type of metal object and I ran over it. It tore two tires and put a hole through 2 rims. I was out of town and in a pickle because my car is too new for the company to have rims available and it would take a week to get any in. I should have had Allstate. That turned out to be one expensive trip.

  32. I remember one year my dad was having horrible stomach pains and two hours into the trip he turned around. We ended up leaving the next day. Back then, I couldn’t figure out why they didn’t get a hotel for the night. But when you don’t feel well, your bed seems better.

  33. Lisa Heath

Whaaaat? You don’t need an AllState Policy for this? I always thought you had to be a member or policyholder to use their services! I love that they don’t require that

  34. Emma Spellman

We got a flat tire on our last trip and barely had enough money to cover the new tire. It was not fun. Since we were traveling the trunk was full so we had to empty it all the road to get to the spare. That was not a fun day! It’s to know services like these are available.

  35. There is NO parent on the face of the earth that is perfect. We have all made our own epic parenting fails from time to time. These are great tips for moving on from them.

  36. These tips are so on point. Preparing for everything is key, which is why my trunk is always stocked with a solution for everything…from clothes to water to first aid stuff!

  37. It’s never easy being a parent and its good to have a plan that you can always follow. These are all great tips especially for new parents.

  38. I try to not be a super planner – I just like to have an outline of the plan and leave room for adjustments!
